Term Project : How the New Media Affect Korean Society
In the 1998, the president of the South Korea, Daejung Kim, decided to invest large scale government’s budgets into the IT field. The government predicted the IT and new media will be significant to survive in the global market. Since the government successfully accomplished the project, South Korea has a strong IT infrastructure. Afterward, the government has been invested in IT. Therefore, South Korea has fast internet connection environment, download 10~100 MB per seconds. According to the development of the new media environment, there are some of positive and negative issues. The major positives are faster internet connection, people can communication and access to new media anywhere with their mobile even on the subway, new online business, watching TV anywhere with DMV technology, Display phone and new job opportunities. However there are some of the negative affects which are no protection over the copyright of software and digital contents, online anonymous rumor or comments discredit to people, such as celebrities, online anonymous comments affect the Korean Political world and hacking and phishing. To protect people from the cyber criminal, the government established the organization of Cyber Terror Response Center in 1995. They trace the hackers, phishing and virus. Also they trace the person who posts any negative thread or contents, affects negative effect to society such as negative view of political issue, defamation of character or suicide cyber community. According to the development of the new media environment, the quality of the life in Korea has been improved. However, it has also negative affects to the Korean society.
New Media
The new media is the new way to communicate and exchange the information based on the web technology, Web 2.0. The new media has five critical characteristics which are communication, collaboration, community, creativity and convergence. The new media are such as blogs, personal website, Wikis, social networking, instant messenger, email, online news, online stream video, pod cast, user created contents (UCC) and file sharing. Since the new media uses online technology, it is easy to communicate and share information all over the world. Moreover, people are able to access the new media via not only Personal Computers but also portable devices, such as the PDA, mobile and laptop. Therefore, people can access the new media anywhere and anytime. New media does not have any boundary which old offline media had. Also, it is faster to deliver and share the information. These new media allow people to make their community on the cyber environment, deliver the information, communication, collaborate and exchange the information, express themselves by making their digital contents and share the files. Since the new media is so powerful tool to deliver the information to the public, the industry business recognized the new media will be the significant tool for their business. Not only the business people but also politics are using the new media for their political reasons, such as president election race.

Term Project : Social Network : better or worse than real thing?
Nowadays, there are new way to get know people around the world. According to growth of high technology and new media, people get know via facebook, blog, community sites, instant messenger and dating site. These technologies allow people to communicate from all over the world and variety social classes. With these technologies, people easy to find the person who has same interest and leisure, exchange information, find a match and exchange the opinion variety people. However, there are some of negative points about cyber social network. Since it is the communication over the screen, some people are easy to use the abuse language to hurt others. There are some people use the cyber social network to criminal ways, such as kid napping and rape. Also it is hard to monitor who the children meet via on line. Even though it is not real social network, this is still the social network on the net. The cyber social network could bring people variety benefits and it would help to improve the human’s life. However, if it is misused, it would be hurt people and it would be the one of the significant social issue in the future.
